The Ohio River forms the southeast border with Kentucky, and the Wabash River forms the southeastern border with Indiana.

About 60 miles west of Joliet off Interstates 80 and 39 is the community of Oglesby which fronts right on the Illinois River.

Besides Lake Michigan, the other major lake in the state is Rend Lake. Other lakes are Senachwine Lake and Upper Peoria Lake, which are close together in the north central portion of Illinois. Then there are Lake Springfield, Lake Shelbyville, and the Carlyle Reservoir in the south central part of the state.

About 1 hour to the north and west of Chicago, near the Wisconsin state line is the Chain O'Lakes area which has several wonderful lakes linked togerther. Chain-O-Lakes State Park is located there. The lakes are named Channel Lake, Lake Catherine, Lake Marie, Bluff Lake, Grass Lake, Petite Lake, Dunn's Lake, Nippersink Lake, Fox Lake, Pistakee Lake, and Long Lake.

Great Lakes

One of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan is on the northeastern border of the state. Of course, the city of Chicago fronts on its shore.
