Lakes and Rivers
Just halfway between Augusta and Atlanta is Lake Oconee a georgeous lake rimmed with hills and trees. On the border with South Carolina just north of Augusta is Clark Hill Lake aka Lake Strom Thurmond, which is fed by the Savannah River. Lake Seminole is an excellent choice for all your water activities and enjoyment along the Georgia/Florida border. About 45 minutes northeast of Atlanta is Lake Lanier, which is fed by the Chatahoochee River.
Headed south and east about an hour from Atlanta will bring you to the communities of Monticello, Covington, and Jackson, which all have waterfront on Jackson Lake. Just 45 minutes south of Savannah off Interstate 95 is the community of Townsend, with excellent waterfront real estate on the South Newport River.
Atlantic Ocean Coast
The Georgia Coastline of the Atlantic Ocean is rich in history. The water here is beautiful and is considered some of the finest in the US. Of course, Savannah is the city of the South steeped in history. The city is bordered on the north by the Savannah River which forms the state line with South Carolina. Tybee Island is the barrier protecting the city from the Atlantic.
